When pushing that much power through a bad connection it heats up a LOT. The cheap chinese lock washer had failed, causing the positive 4awg cable to come loose so there was a bad connection. Well, at camp I pull everything out of the van and inspect it. I turned off the DC-DC charger in the midst of our drive (luckily I have it wired into the tail lights and it was day time, so I just turn my lights off and it shuts down). It smelled like chemicals or plastic burning. Well, after being on the road for about 2 months one day we are driving, my wife and I start smelling something really weird. I had also bought their 40A dc-dc charger to recharge my battery bank via the alternator. I gave them the benefit of the doubt on this one. I ended up just settling with pulling the edge of my bed up, reaching through my slats and flipping the switch when I use the inverter. They said they would refund me if I shipped the huge thing back to Canada on my own dime.

They had planned to release a remote for it, but never did despite having it outlined in the PDF and the obvious "REMOTE" port and the 3 way on/off/remote switch.
Great.Īfter sending a video to Renogy, they inform me that the inverter I bought was their old model (which they actually sold to me via Amazon for $50-90 higher price than the new model with more features ?). I got a response within a couple days and they ship me one free of charge. I email Renogy and at this point their customer service was a bit better than it is now. So I look for one online, couldn't find it stand alone.
When I finally got around to installing, I realize it is missing the actual remote.

I looked at the pictures of the Inverter and downloaded the PDF manual and both mentioned a remote function, so I pulled the trigger.
Like most people, I wanted an inverter with a remote switch so I can turn it on easily. I bought it a couple months in advance of installation. My first issue was I bought their 2KW inverter off of Amazon. It seems they have just gotten worse and worse and every day I see more people have issues with them that are left ignored/unresolved. Hey guys, I just wanted to share my experience with Renogy.
